Family Reunion time…

0

Summertime seems to be the most popular time for family reunions in the South, and this one is no exception.

I have been fortunate enough to be called upon by the Waldrep Family for an updated group photo every few years (along with an occasional Gainesville High School reunion). This year the Waldrep Family got together at the Jaemor Farms Barn in northeastern Hall County on July 3rd. This has always been a special group for my wife and me because we’ve gone to school with and known many of the family members for much of our lives and always feel grateful to be included in their family gatherings. This year was special for many folks because of their kinship to Georgia’s First Lady, Sandra Deal and her husband, Governor Nathan Deal. It was great to see them amongst their relatives in a relaxed family atmosphere. At the end of the event, everyone left fully fed and happy to have been able to spend time with over a hundred of their closest kin.

Thanks again to the Waldrep Family for including Jane and me in your gathering for another year and we hope you like the photos we make for your family members. See below for the latest group photo of the Waldrep Family.

Kayla and Kevin’s Wedding

0

In case you didn’t know, we shoot more than just sports. We also shoot weddings and other events when we’re not on a field or in a gym. Stephanie Morgan and I recently shot my cousin Kayla Wilson’s wedding to Kevin Clark in Alto and Cornelia. Here are a few teaser shots from that day in May…

GPR Dancers…

0

Last Thursday night was recital night for Gainesville Parks & Recreation Department’s Ballet and Hip Hop dancers at the Frances Meadows Center in New Holland.

These tiny dancers had a great time performing for friends and family following instruction from Jenny Dunn of the Creative Movement and Dance Company www.creativemovementanddance.com . They looked great in their red and black tutus and red jumpsuits and hats. We got shots of each of the dancers and group shots of the troupes and put together a little video for your enjoyment.

If parents and friends would like to look at the photos in more detail and place orders for packages, prints, and other products, head on over to www.neilcopeland.photoreflect.com to check them out. You’ll need to place orders by June 3rd to get in before the viewing expires. If you have any questions about the photos, give me a call at 770 869-0110. Sales tax and a small mailing fee will be added to orders not placed at the recitals.

Enjoy the video! (It’s a hi-rez vid, so if you don’t have a fast computer, you may want to click on the arrow and then hit the pause button for a minute or so to give it time to load).

Big changes underway…

Lightbender Studio Closes this Spring

The end of school this year is also seeing some changes at Neil Copeland Photography.  We’re going to refocus our efforts on the things that have worked well for us over the years and spend more time marketing more efficiently.  The biggest thing we’re doing right now is closing our studio in downtown Gainesville.

It’s been really great having a dedicated space set up for doing portraits and special promotions, but, quite honestly, most of our work over the last couple of years has been done on location.  We had thought having a convenient location would be a bigger draw than it actually was.  Parking around the Square has been and will continue to be a major problem for businesses.  People want to park close to work and close to the places where they shop, and the parking decks in downtown Gainesville just haven’t provided the kind of convenience people want.  With the economy still causing problems for many of us in this area, we have to put our money where it will do us the most good, and operating a downtown studio hasn’t proven to be the answer for us.  So come May 31st, Lightbender Studio will be closing its doors off the Square in Gainesville and we will be getting our gear organized for shooting more jobs on location.  Thanks to everyone who has been a client at a portrait or headshot session and to everyone who loved bouncing on Santa’s knee at our Christmas events.  We’ll continue to be around to shoot photos for you and we’ll be more diligent about posting our work online at the blog.

New Photo Technique

Ripping out the stereotypes

End of summer for school means it’s time to get busy shooting football photos. We’ve been busy with DeKalb County high schools for the last couple of weeks, as you can see from some of our earlier posts. The latest addition here is Chamblee’s Bulldog football team. Along with a new season, we’ve been working on a new high definition, high color, processing technique for our individual package photos. Every now and then, something comes along that makes a dramatic difference in image quality, and this technique works especially well for youth sports photos. We use a slightly different lighting method when we shoot the photos, and it takes a little more time in our digital darkroom to produce the results we like, but we think it’s worth the extra effort to get a finished product that combines higher definition in the details, shadow areas, and color to give our photos a unique look. So far, we’ve gotten rave reviews and a lot of great comments on the “painterly” look of these individual photos. Check ’em out and let us know what you think. We haven’t applied this to our big team photos yet, but we’re considering it for our next project.

In addition to our new technique, some of the Varsity players like to come up with unique poses… not your regular T&I stuff. Some of them can get quite creative…

We’ve really been having some fun with our football teams so far this season. It’s been hot, yes, but the players have been fantastic and we’ve produced some of our best work this season.

Here’s the Chamblee High School football team photo. We’ll move on to Band photos next week at East Hall and also some of the other fall sports like Volleyball in the next few weeks. Keep checking in and we’ll keep you posted. And be sure to call if you’d like to have YOUR team photos shot by Neil Copeland Photography!
